Day 03 (08.11.12) Chiangmai – Thaton (215km)

After the hotel breakfast at 8.15am we took the truck or songthaew to Chang Phuak northern bus station to take the bus at 9am for the 4 hrs journey (215km) to Thaton which stopped just after crossing the main bridge.

Thaton is in north Thailand, 4 hours from Chiang Mai on the side of Mae Kok River. It is a very relaxing town. Many travelers may also take a boat on Mae Kok River from Chiang Rai. We visited the temples north of the bridge and also south of the bridge. We had dinner at a stall by the road side.

The Ubosatha Hall, on level 2, is where important ceremonies are held such as ordination of Buddhist monks and recitation of the Patimokkha - the 227 Buddhist Monastic rules of discipline. The White Buddha (Level 3) can be seen just above the main complex.

The beautiful architecture styles and colors of the Stupa - A domed memorial building with a solid core and that enshrines relics of the Buddha or other important persons. The relics are buried inside the solid interior. Actual relics might include ashes, hairs, bone fragments, or other cremated remains.

  1. Yes, this blog is aptly titled "Mountains, river and temples".
As I read on, I know so little about
Thailand, or rather there're so many places I have not been in Thailand.

    Regards,
    From alancykok
