2019 Pantai Kerachut 8km hike

20.08.2019 - We made it said my wife! A one way Pantai Kerachut 4km hike with my son Ching Jin Wei and my wife Catherine. It took us about one and a half hour hike from the park entrance at Teluk Bahang to Pantai Kerachut in the Penang National Park. Had a half hour rest for packed lunch and another half hour visiting the Turtle Conservation Information Centre before hiking 4km back. Pantai Keracut is one of Penang's remotest beaches. It is within the Penang National Park, on the west coast of the cape at the northwest of Penang Island. Sleeping was at Quayside Condominium in Butterworth.

A monkey greeted us on the trek to Pantai Kerachut Penang. The start of the trail was easy and had boarded tracks with well-constructed steps.

Beginning of the trek is tough as it is all the way up. Constructed hiking aids, such as anchored ropes to assist with inclines, or stumps over waterlogged stretches.

The Pantai Kerachut meromictic lake is a lake which has two layers of water feeding into it, that do not mix. Typically the bottom layer is more saline than the top (otherwise the top would be denser, and there will inevitably be mixing as the top layer sinks down).
