2024 - Trans-Siberian Train Adventure (Day2 Irkutsk to Vladivostok, Russia)

A 30day 9,938km Trans-Siberian Train (21 Jun>21 Jul, 2024) Vladivostok in the east to St. Petersburg.

Day 2 (June 22) Depart at 00:45 Irkutsk, 4hr by S7 Airlines to Vladivostok 06:45 (+2)

It was the inaugural day of our trip to Vladivostok, and the weather welcomed us with a chilly and dreary atmosphere. However, as the saying goes, "There is no bad weather, just inappropriate attire." No bite in the air could diminish our enthusiasm—the tour would go on!

After arriving at Vladivostok airport (21°C/13°C) we took a bus at 7:30 am to the 3-star Hotel Azimut. We left our luggage at our hotel and had breakfast before venturing out to change some USD to rubles and get our local Russian SIM card. Overall S7 airlines provided good services and reasonable meals. The weather was rainy and overcast. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vladivostok

Vladivostok is a large Russian Pacific port city overlooking the Golden Horn Bay, near the borders of China and North Korea. It is known as the terminus of the Trans-Siberian Railway, which connects it to Moscow in a seven-day journey. In the city center is a central square dominated by a monument commemorating local soldiers who fought against the Japanese in the early 20th century.

We took taxis to Pyatyy Okean, a well-known restaurant overlooking the Golden Horn Bay, and enjoyed an ala carte dinner. Mr Choo Yon Kit and Mr Chai Kin Sang were generous enough to sponsor 3 huge Bering Sea Snow Crabs and Russian Vodka to share. Thank you so much, gentlemen! Some of us also sang hash songs to entertain ourselves and the waiters.

Snow crab is a type of crab named for the color of its flesh. Fun fact: When cooked, snow crab meat changes from bright red to pure white, hence the name snow crab.
