2024 - Trans-Siberian Train Adventure (Day24 Moscow on day 3)

A 30day 9,938km Trans-Siberian Train (21 Jun>21 Jul, 2024) Vladivostok in the east to St. Petersburg

A wall artwork depicting "A holiday in Kyiv" was found near Kievskaya Metro Station. The station was officially inaugurated on April 5, 1953. Its design focuses on Soviet Ukraine and the reconciliation of Ukraine and Russia. The station is decorated with a large number of attractive cloths painted in the socialist realism style in fresco technique. The 1953 fresco "Holiday in Kyiv" was almost destroyed in 2010 due to an accident during neighbouring construction work. During the fresco recovery, restorers restored its original appearance, which had undergone numerous alterations since its creation.

Day 24 (July 14) Moscow 22:05 by overnight train (706km) to St Petersburg arriving at 6am (+1)

After hotel breakfast and baggage drop-off for later collection, we took the Metro to another station to take a 2.5-hour Radisson River Cruise at the pier on the beautifully clean Moscow River near the Hotel Ukraine, where we had lunch. After the Moscow River Cruise, we made our way to the Izmailovo Kremlin and Flea Market near our Izmailovo Gamma Delta Hotel in Moscow.

Izmaylovo market, located near our hotel, boasts an extensive assortment of souvenirs and Russian memorabilia, making it a must-see on weekends! We spent our time roaming about the market and its surroundings, examining every nook and crevice. It is close to Izmaylovsky Park, which is also a beautiful place to walk.

Kievskaya Metro Station opened on in 1954.

Kievskaya Metro Station opened on March 14, 1954. The station's decoration honors the brotherhood between Russians and Ukrainians. Ukrainian architects' idea, chosen from seventy-three works submitted for the competition, features rich mosaic decoration constructed of small and expensive stones.

Kiyevskaya opened in 1953 and is richly ornamented in the quasi-baroque style popular in the early 1950s. The square pylons are covered with white Ural marble and intricately patterned ceramic tile, while the plastered ceiling is adorned with a series of murals by various painters illustrating life in Ukraine. The platform's conclusion features a massive mosaic commemorating the 300th anniversary of Russia and Ukraine's union. A row of hexagonal chandeliers gives forth light.
