🇷🇺🚆Day 20 (July 10) Kazan (23°C / 13°C) walking tour in Kazan

We departed Yekaterinburg at 8 p.m. last night and arrived in Kazan at 12:04 p.m. today, 16 hours later. Now we were 5 hours behind Malaysian time in Kazan. The morning view featured marshy area, alpine woodland, oil and gas industries, lumber, and major cities and towns. We fell asleep quickly after boarding the train in Yekaterinburg bound for Kazan, the capital of Russia's Republic of Tatarstan. We marched from Kazan Train Station to Don Quixote Hotel, a 3-story boutique hotel dedicated solely to the legend.

Kazan is the largest city and capital of Tatarstan, Russia. It is located at the confluence of the Volga and Kazanka rivers and covers 425.3 square kilometres. With a population of about 1.3 million, Kazan is Russia's fifth-largest city and the most populous on the Volga River and in the Volga Federal District.

Bauman Street runs from the foot of the Kazan Kremlin to the "Ploshchad Tukaya" metro station. It is lined with recertified buildings from the 17th to 20th centuries, including architectural masterpieces such as the House of Press and the Bell Tower. Along with these historical landmarks, you will come across fascinating sculptures, including memorials to cultural icons such as Feodor Chaliapin. There is also the 74-meter-tall Epiphany Cathedral Bell Tower, which offers a great perspective over Kazan's downtown area.

The Bauman Street Clock is both a timepiece and a work of art. This bronze sculpture, constructed by renowned Kazan architect Igor Bashmakov in 1999, is also known as the "lovers' clock," because it is located at the beginning of Kazan's main pedestrian street, Bauman Street. The upper half of the clock shows characters from Tukay's poems, such as Little Musician, Fatima and the Nightingale, and A Pair of Horses: a child playing a flute, a girl releasing a bird from a cage, and two horses. The clock faces shown below have different orientations. The hour hands are adorned with motifs of the sun and crescent moon, while the dial is surrounded with lyrical lines written in Arabic calligraphy.

We met on Bauman Street for the second leg of our walking tour, which would take us to Kazan Kremin. It was a spectacular sight at night, and I was astounded by its majesty and magnificence. Can you image a mosque (Kul Sharif Mosque) and a church (Annunciation Cathedral) sharing the same compound?

We walked almost 1km from Kazan Kremin to Dvorets Zemledel'tsev in 15 minutes on quite flat terrain. The green domed building, which featured an equally amazing humongous tree-like sculpture at the main entrance, housed the Republic of Tatarstan's Ministry of Agriculture and Food, the General Directorate of Veterinary Medicine, and the Republican Agro-Industrial Center for Investments and Innovations, among other subordinate organizations. It is widely regarded as one of the city's most significant modern landmarks, demonstrating the role of agriculture and innovation in Kazan's modern landscape.
