Good morning! A beautiful country view from Ulan-Ude, Russia.
Day 9 (June 29) Ulan-Ude - 25°C / 13°C
The night train from Chita to Ulan-Ude station took about 11 hours. We arrived in Ulan-Ude at 07:20am and took a bus to the hotel where we left our bags at the reception. Again a few Samaritans (Goh Ching Chee and Ching Neng Bin) helped some people with heavy bags and carried them up the steep stairs to the railway overpass.
Some of us had breakfast at the hotel, while others went into town to get breakfast. In a nearby basement, we discovered a 24-hour supermarket with a good selection of beer, vodka, etc. Afterward, we pulled ourselves together and continued hiking, as Ulan-Ude is a city that can be explored on foot.
Giant Lenin Head is the world’s largest Lenin head monument. The first stop was to Lenin Square to see the biggest Lenin bust in the world. Built to commemorate his 100th birthday. Height is 14m, head 7.7m. After visiting the square we walk to Buryat State Academic Opera and Ballet Theatre. Ulitsa Sobornaya Street. From the theatre, we went to the walking street called Arbat where there are many buildings with different architecture and also a shopping complex. Odigitria Cathedral, UlanUde’s largest church. From Arbat, we walked to The Holy Odigitrievsky Cathedral.

It looks like a gentlemanly one-on-one fight is about to break out between Ching Neng Bin and Goh Ching Chee at Ulan-Ude station. No! That was a clever shot by David Wee.
