Bukit Engku Busu (331m) here we come! Ching with 12 trekkers from KL hiked up the hill on 20.09.2020 and made it to the top in 30 minutes.
Ching Neng Bin said: “I will never forget the 25day outdoor training in Outward Bound School in 1975 and the thought of Engku Busu sent shivers down our spine. The extreme 30mile 3day 2night expedition ending the last day by trekking up from the Western slope of Engku Busu and down the Eastern slope towards Lumut before reaching the old school at Teluk Muroh presently the Lumut Naval Base was the hardest expedition encountered in the school.”
Bukit Engku Busu is a 331 meter (1,087 ft) high hill in the Perak town of Lumut. The sign at the trailhead explains that the hill was named after Raja Engku Busu of Selangor who was invited by the Sultan of Perak in the 1840s to help get rid of pirates who were rife in this area at the time.

These pirates roamed the coasts from Johore to Kedah and raided the Dutch, British and Achehnese ships. However, Raja Engku Busu was killed and failed in the mission.

Ching Neng Bin was awarded a special banana for leading and guilding the team.
It was a good short hike with hard climb and importantly a very satisfied feeling at the end. And for that we were all rewarded with a mug of guinness stout or beer at Capri Bar and Restaurant in Lumut.
