A 30day 9,938km Trans-Siberian Train (21 Jun>21 Jul, 2024) Vladivostok in the east to St. Petersburg
Day 4 (June 24) Khabarovsk (24°C / 13°C) walking tour
We managed to catch the sunrise at about 5:34 am and admired the scenery over sandwiches and Malaysian coffee. 14 hours later we arrived at Khabarovsk train station and walked the six minutes to the Enigma Hotel where we would store our luggage before checking in at 2 pm. From there we headed for breakfast near the train station. Some went to a KFC which is said to be better than the KFC in Malaysia. Delicious local food, and bakeries from 24/7 stores.
Our tour guides, Ko Wen Wu and Adam Teo took us by local bus to the Transfiguration Cathedral, where we attended a local mass. It is thought to be the third largest in Russia, with an impressive golden dome that catches the eye from anywhere in the city and enjoys a great location overlooking the Amur River. https://maps.app.goo.gl/5R7MfUn31H5aYQ1a6
We then went down and stumbled upon a local bank where we were able to withdraw rubles using our Unionpay card. We then walked past a Soviet era apartment block with a park and finally to Lenin Square. We visited Khabarovsk's huge central park with statues and a children's playground. We walked around for about 11 km before returning by bus.
After the tour, we will check into our hotel and have some free time before departing the next day for a 2-day train trip to Chita. For dinner, we had instant mee with local pumpkin and sunflower seeds and Vietnamese tea! All the local TV channels were in Russian. I guess it will be an earlier night tonight!
