Day 4 (02.12.2011) Hangzhou by bus 129km to Qiandao Lake (千岛湖) (Thousand Island Lake)
After breakfast at 8am we took 2 taxis (RMB29 per taxi) to the Hangzhou West Bus station for Qiandao Lake. The bus ticket (RMB60 pp) departing at 11.30am for Qingdao Lake. After a 2 hour journey we arrived at the long distance bus terminal and took No.K7 bus (Y1) to Lu’You Matou. From here we took No.K004 bus (Y1) to Jin Yuan hotel (Y120 a room for 2) at Xiushui Street. Christine Leong and Wong Lai Van stayed at in Qiandao Lake Elan Resort Hotel (Y440 a room for 2) through internet booking.
We then explored the Xiushui water-front and the boat jetty area. Had noodle for lunch at Chun’an Boji Tofu Workshop. A farewell dinner was organized for Christine Leong and Wong Lai Van who will be returning to Shanghai the next day. We had an expensive fresh water Song Fish dinner at the restaurant opposite our hotel. The 4.5kg Song Fish Head cost us a ‘bomb’ at Y486. Went back to Lai Van’s Elan Inn Resort room for a chat before bidding them farewell.

We woke up at 5.15am for our coffee and some buns given by Lai Van. We then walked 10 minutes to the jetty to board the boat (Y41 pp) departing at 6.30am to Shendu Port. (Two boat trips a day to Shendu 6.30am and 12.30am and from Shendu is 7.40am and 11.30am). The boat made a few stops among the islands to pick up passengers. After 4½ hours 66km boat ride up Xin'an River we arrived at Shendu Port. Here we had noodle and hard-boiled egg for lunch.

We continued the 1 hour journey by bus (Y8pp) at 12 noon to Shexian.
From here we changed to another bus (Y6.5 pp) to Tunxi. At the Tunxi bus
station we took the taxi (Y9) to Huangshan Old Street Youth Hostel (Y140
a room for 2) where we stayed.
Had a good rest at the hostel and at 3pm we walked to explore the Huangshan Old Street. We later took a taxi to the train station to get the ticket for traveling to Nanjing on the 6th. Came back by taxi and had a very good dinner at a shop facing the river. We then walked to the New Street to buy bread and buns for breakfast and for the day trip to Mt. Huangshan.

Thousand Islets Lake (Qiandao Lake) is a young lake formed in 1959 as a result of the construction of New Anjiang Hydroelectric Power Station. It is a beautiful lake with 1,078 islets showing different views in different seasons.
