2018 - Perth Holiday Adventure (16-30 October) day 5 camping at Mandurah

Day 5 (20.10.2018) - Destination: Estuary Hideaway Holiday Park, Mandurah WA.

Our 'BCF' (boating-camping-fishing) adventure in Western Australia started at 10.30am with the scenic 90km two hour drive down south via Kwinana Fwy/State Route 2 and National Route 1. The camping trip preparation started five days ago. David Seah got to service his car, changed both the boat trailer springs and to test the boat engine. Immediately after breakfast we packed our clothing, tents, food and cooking utensils onto the boat and were all raring to go.

Mandurah weather: 19°/14°C.

Passing through the first channel on National Route 1 in Mandurah. This channel feeds the sea water into the large Collins Pool.

Passing through the Dawesville Channel on National Route 1. Dawesville Channel is an artificial channel between the Peel-Harvey Estuary and the Indian Ocean at Dawesville about 80 km south of Perth. It is just south of the regional city of Mandurah and just north of Yalgorup National Park.

All of us helped to pitch up these expensive two thousand Australian dollar Oztent RV5 and Oztent RV5 Tagalong.

It took us 30 seconds to set up the main Oztent RV5. At Estuary Hideaway Holiday Park, Old Coast Rd, Bouvard WA.

But it took us another 10 minutes to set up the 3 piece Oztent RV5 Tagalong to extend the living space. The Tagalong tent zips to the awning of the Oztent to form a second tent. At Estuary Hideaway Holiday Park, Old Coast Rd, Bouvard WA.

The Oztent RV5 is super easy to set up and pack away. This is the newest and largest addition to the RV range and fast becoming the most popular model, as everyone likes to have a bit of extra room for their gear. Sleeps up to 6!

The Port Lincoln Parrot (usually called “28” in south western W.A). At Estuary Hideaway Holiday Park, Old Coast Rd, Bouvard WA.

The 28’s are noisy and inquisitive. When disturbed may only fly a very short distance and stop to investigate the cause. Their alarm call will quickly attract others. At Estuary Hideaway Holiday Park, Old Coast Rd, Bouvard WA.

The waste disposal (dump) point. Using a dump point is quite simple. Remove the waste holding tank or cassette from your caravan, take it to the dump point, empty it into the receptacle, and use the hose that’s usually provided at site to wash off the area. Modern dump points come with their own flushing systems, which make the whole process much cleaner.

Estuary Hideaway Holiday Park is a privately owned and operated caravan park and is one of the most idyllic spots going around within close proximity to Perth. One and a quarter hours from the Perth, Estuary Hideaway Holiday Park is situated right on the shores of the Harvey Estuary just south of Mandurah and provides grassy, shaded sites to holiday makers. It's a relaxing place to unwind, put the boat in the water and enjoy the simple things in life.

Withing a 5 minute drive you will find Cape Bouvard Winery and the Thrombolites. There humble appearance gives no indication of their status as extremely rare and ancient life forms-living fossils.

The sudden appearance of the common brushtail possum on the tree beside us frightened the hell out of Ching Neng Bin. It is native to Australia, and the second largest of the possums. Like most possums, the common brushtail possum is nocturnal. It is mainly a folivore, but has been known to eat small mammals such as rats.
