Day 19 (4.12.2015) Nakhon Ratchasima to Bangkok by train (264km)

Today, we traveled 264 km by local train from Korat or Nakhon Ratchasima to Bangkok's Hua Lamphong Central Station at 8:22am, about 6 hours, arriving at 2:15pm. It was dirt cheap at B50 per pax on a 264km journey. On the train we were told that Thai people travel for free on all local ordinary train. Upon arrival in Bangkok, Denise Chia Chai Ling separated from us as she wanted to do some personal shopping for family and friends and be flying home on 6th Dec. So three of us went to Saphai Pae Backpackers hostel where we stayed for three nights. Today was a day of rest after the long train journey.

If you have the time, it is enjoyable to travel by train while watching scenery through the window and to mingle with the local people on board the train.

Bangkok Railway Station opened in 1916 also known as Hua Lamphong Station.

Hua Lamphong Station is situated in the center of the city in the Pathum Wan District.

We noticed the decoration in the train station in conjunction with the king Bhumibol Adulyadej birthday celebration the next day on 5th December. The king was born on 5.12.1927.
