2014 - Prayers at Gunung Suku for the late Bernard Lee

Our Thoughts & Prayers at Gunung Suku – 24.03.2014

This morning at 9:30 am, my wife Catherine and I trekked up Gunung Suku to the very spot where the late Bernard Lee Kar Giap had collapsed. To mark the location, we created a simple tripod stand using cut trees along the track, and I then nailed a small cross to the tree marker.

At that quiet spot, we offered our prayers for the soul of Bernard Lee, remembering his life and the impact he had on all who knew him. After this moment of reflection, we carefully trekked back, carrying with us a deep sense of reverence and remembrance.

Along the track, just before we reached the prayer spot at Gunung Suku, we noticed these unusual flowers growing by the path. It felt almost as if they were welcoming us, guiding us toward the place where we would honor the late Bernard Lee R.I.P. This was the first tree we came across, its blossoms standing quietly as a gentle greeting from nature itself, adding a sense of peace and reverence to our journey.

This is the first time we’ve seen flowers growing directly on the main trunk instead of the branches.

A close-up view of the flowers at the base of the tree.

This is the second tree on the track, very near to the place where Bernard collapsed.

Catherine sat on the very spot where the late Bernard Lee collapsed.

To mark the spot, we did a tripod stand by the track using cut trees and then nailed a small cross on the tree marker.

I will be taking friends of the late Bernard Lee to Gunung Suku on 12th April, 9am at the car park. All friends are cordially invited to this track up to the summit of Gunung Suku and also to pray for the soul of the late Bernard Lee RIP.

A Catholic Prayer for the Late Bernard Lee Kar Giap R.I.P.
God our Father, your power brings us to birth, your wisdom guides our lives, and by your command we return to dust. Lord, those who die still live in your presence, their lives change but do not end. I pray in hope for Bernard’s family, relatives and friends, and for all the dead known to you alone. In company with Christ, who died and now lives, may they rejoice in your kingdom, where all our tears are wiped away. Unite us together again in one family, to sing your praise forever and ever. Amen.
