2025 - Cosmic Cowboys Band entertains villagers💃🎸🪇

Jack Ho on lead guitar and keyboard, Ching Neng Bin on bass, Taufiq and Frankie Yap as singers on rhythms guitar, and Tan Lean Khiong played drums. More than 20 songs in English, Cantonese, Mandarin, Bahasa Malaysia and Indian were sung that night.

26.01.2025 - This is a community service project by the Cosmic Cowboys Country Band after the Sitiawan Recreation Cub (SRC) countdown performance on 31st December 2024. The Kampong Koh Councillors have graciously invited us to perform for an hour at the former Kampong Koh wet market on January 26, 2025. Everyone is welcome to attend the upcoming Chinese New Year celebrations 2025, free of charge.

The cosmic Cowboys were overjoyed to have served the community well and be remembered by the villagers. Many folks came up to us and said they had no idea Sitiawan had a Western and Country band that can sing in four languages. 

 

After our performance, a Councillor gave us a special beer treat as a token of appreciation for a job well done.

SITIAWAN: A statue of two elephants, which is considered to have historical significance in the derivation of the name Sitiawan, has been constructed as a commemorative emblem. The statue was created to honor the spirit of loyalty and friendship in the historical account of how Sitiawan obtained its name. 

The narrative of the 'Setia Kawan' (Loyal Friend) statue is around an elephant who refused to abandon another elephant caught in a river. When the river swelled, the elephant did not desert its 'buddy,' and both of them died. Following this tragedy, the river was named Sungai Gajah Mati (Dead Elephant River), and the surrounding settlement was dubbed Kampung Gajah Mati (Dead Elephant settlement). 

In 1886, a smallpox pandemic ravaged the town, killing many people. The local leader at the time wrote to the Perak Resident, requesting that the name Gajah Mati be changed to Setia Kawan (Loyal Friend). Since then, it has been known as Setia Kawan, which the inhabitants have shortened to Sitiawan.
