EBC trek Day 08 - Dingboche trek 12km to Lobuche (4,931m / 16,174 ft)

Day 08 (04.11.17) - Dingboche (4,412m / 14,471ft) trek 12km to Lobuche (4,931m / 16,174 ft). Walking time: 5hrs. Difference in elevation: +519m.

The steep trail ascends to the terminal moraine of the Khumbu glacier. We passed through the memorial area of Chukpilhara before reaching Lobuche. In Lobuche, the sunset on Mt. Nuptse is particularly spectacular. Above the huts looms the famous Lhotse Ridge. The temperature was minus 10 Celsius in the evening.

Ching had a photo taken with the owner of this Yak Lodge, Mr Chhiring Lakpa Sherpa had summited Mount Everest 5 times.

This must be the longest climb up... the altitude is now 4620m.

Everyone walks like an old man.

After a long, torturous climb... we arrived at the Everest Memorial Chukpi Lhara.

At the Everest Memorial Chukpi Lhara.

Lots of memorial here... to remember the heroes who have lost to Everest.

Hristo Prodanov (1943-1984) was a Bulgarian mountaineer. Scaled Mt Everest alone on 20th of April 1984 from the west ridge without oxygen. Died on his way back from the summit on 21st of April 1984.

Lots of yaks doing their job... This is why we don't eat yaks.

02.20pm - Finally arrived at Lobuche... Lobuche (6145m) is actually the name of the mountain... this is sort of the base camp/village at the base of Lobuche.

Shag to the max... as you can see... The 3 real men at the back are still happy.

Lobuche accommodation is close to 5000m...!

A sudden mini expedition up after a short break. We are going to climb up that "hill" in front to see the Khumbu Glacier.

Tired but still walking...!

The top is just maybe 200m high... but the climb up was devastating...!

Lots of balancing rocks here.
