Drinking at Spotted Dog Club on 19.06.2017 - Victor Choo our Subang Jaya SS14 "Ronda & Makan Bersama-sama" team leader organised a drinking session at the Royal Selangor Club, Kuala Lumpur. Seven of us from SS14 met up with another two members from KL at Kim Lian Kee for dinner. The nine clubbers are: Chan Yee Leong, Ching Neng Bin, Edward Ooi, Lam Chee Keong, Lawrence Tho Ah Kow, Oh Teow Beng, Teh Beng Choon, Teoh Eng Hoe and Victor Choo.

Getting there was taking the 7pm LRT from Station 18 to Pasar Seni station. From here we walked to the famous Petaling Street to eat the best fried Tai Lok Meen (Hokkien Noodles) at Kim Lian Kee. After dinner, Chan Yee Leong drove us in his van to the Royal Selangor Club for the beer session. We would like to thank our Sifu Mr Teoh Eng Hoe who is a Royal Selangor Club member to take us in. After our beer session, Chan Yee Leong drove us to Masjid Jamek Station to take the LRT back to SS14. We all reached home safely at 12 midnight. It was truly our post-Father's Day rendezvous at the Royal Selangor Club (the Spotted Dog).

The famous Petaling Street or KL Chinatown. The original Chinatown centered on Market Square. Jalan Tun H.S. Lee or High Street. Today a "Green Dragon" covers Petaling Street. Petaling Street is now a tourist trap overrun by rows upon rows of identical stalls peddling counterfeit goods.

The centre of historical buildings - This place is easily reach by the LRT (Masjid Jamek Stn), around 5 minute walks. Some weekends, it will be use for activities, runs, even concerts. Surrounding the Merdeka Square are the St Mary Cathedral, Sultan Abdul Samad Building, Masjid Jamek, Royal Selangor Club, Textile Museum, Kuala Lumpur Gallery and Kuala Lumpur National Library. It is a very good starting point for the area.

The Sultan Abdul Samad Building is located on the eastern side of Merdeka Square. The Moorish-style building serves as the headquarter of colonial administration when it was built in 1897. In addition, the building was named after the Sultan in honor of his Majestic as the ruler of the state at the time.

The Long Bar is one of the oldest bars in the country at The Royal Selangor Club (the spotted dog). The club history dates back to 1896 as a drinking hole for the British during colonial days. Can you see the dog?

The Royal Selangor Club was established in 1884 as a socializing place for the elite in Kuala Lumpur. Expatriates and officials gathered here to relax, play billiards, and watch cricket on the field which is now part of Merdeka Square.

The history of cricket in Malaysia and the Royal Selangor Club (RSC) are intimately connected. It resulted in a spurt of cricket in the Peninsula and more clubs, Police, Malayan Railways, Postal and Kilat entered the fray. Kilat Club was essentially a Malaysian team and won the shield six years in succession from 1962 to 1968 and even the Golden Jubilee competition of the trophy in 1975 and at one point, also fielded Lal Singh (who played for India in their debut Test at Lord’s against England in 1932).

The Royal Selangor Club (the spotted dog). Why it’s called “The Spotted Dog” - The club was nicknamed “The Spotted Dog” as two Dalmatians belonging to the wife of one of the club founders were left to guard the entrance of the club whenever they visited the club. The club is also simply referred to as “The Dog”.

The St. Mary’s Cathedral at Dataran Merdeka is the oldest Cathedral in Kuala Lumpur. The construction of the church started in the 1890s when a decision was made to erect a new building to house the growing congregation during that period.

The Striking St. Mary’s Cathedral at Dataran Merdeka. One of the attractions of the St. Mary’s Cathedral is the exceptional English pipe organ installed in the church in 1895 by Henry Willis. Henry Willis is a famous English organ maker who also made the organ for St Paul’s Cathedral in London and the original Grand Organ of the Royal Albert Hall.
