Day 15 (13.04.2013) Lugu Lake (泸沽湖) to Lijiang (丽江) 240km

Getting to Lijiang, we first took two vans from our guesthouse at 9am to Loshui (落水) town at the western part of the lake. We walked around this town and had an early lunch here. The bus departed at 11.20 am - it was a 5 hour bus journey that took us through several mountains and a large dam before arriving at Lijiang Old Town.

in Loshui, the road was lined with small shops, restaurants, guesthouses and homes, all with wonderful views

we stumbling upon one of those strange sights: a preserved pig on the wall

we had noodle and fried rice for lunch in this shop

there is a huge lake or dam below us as we passed through the several mountains

a 5 hour bus journey that took us through several mountains and a large dam before arriving at Lijiang Old Town

in 1997, the Old Town of Lijiang was put in the list of the World's Relics by the World Cultural Heritage Commission of UNESCO

Black Dragon Pool (Heilongtan) is its main water source and subdivides into many streams which can reach every family and every street

we had some bite at KFC and showing off what we have bought

The Old Town of Lijiang is a UNESCO World Heritage Site

the charming Old Town is now a famous tourist attraction for its traditional ethnic culture and customs, matchless buildings and the wonderful natural views

there are almost 350 varied and matchless bridges in the little town, some of which were built in the Ming and Qing Dynasties

Day 16 (14.04.2013) Lijiang (丽江)

Today was free and easy. In the morning we visited the Heilongtang Park (Black Dragon Pool Park)(黑龙潭). We had lunch at the Naxi Peasant Small Kitchen (納西 农家小厨) near the main entrance to the Park. In the afternoon, we walked up the steps to the highest part of the old town to view and take photos of the roof tops of Lijiang Old Town.

streets are paved by the local blue-stones which are neither muddy in the rainy season nor dusty in the dry season

the best KFC breakfast, is cheap and taste good - we always go for it wherever there is

we each had mini YouTiao a deep fried stick of dough, a bowl of Congee that had pork and thousand year egg in it and a cup of soya bean milk

it was less crowded in the early morning walk

The Old Town of Lijiang is a UNESCO World Heritage Site

we salute to Mao Zedong statue in Lijiang

heading north from Old Town we arrived at the Heilongtan Pool (Black Dragon Pool) at the foot of the Elephant Hill

this Peaceful Black Dragon Pool has dried up a year ago

the Heilongtan pool has an area of 40 hectares and it provides a haven for birds and water-life

we had rough time riding these horses on an ancient tea-horse road

how about we joining this guy and follow him through the tea-horse trail to India?

we had lunch at this Naxi Peasant Small Kitchen in front of the park

  1. Ms Lee of Zhuhai Inn at Lijiang Old Town presented a good hostess's image. She needed more visitors like your group. Pics taken with her at the salmon hotpot dinner were heart-warming; everybody smiled warmly at the camera. KFC styled You Tiao? Unbelievable! However, when served with porridge with century egg & pork as ingredient, together with soya milk - my! That's perfect breakfast! Have good days ahead before home coming.
