4days road trip from KL > Kukup > Mersing > Sg. Lembing > KL
The 1,316km South Peninsular Malaysia Road Trip - 15 to 18 July 2016



8.34am - Breakfast at this One Up Food court, Seremban 2. The food court can accommodate up to 100 tables and claims to offer 20-30 varieties of hawker stalls.

Day 1 Fri. (15.7.2016) - KL to Kukup (445km)

The route: KL > Seremban > Muar > Batu Pahat > Rengit > Pontian > Kukup.

I left the house at 6.30am and arrived at Nilai RnR at 7.20am to meet the rest of the team members. Song Poh then distributed the walkie-talkie to the 4 co-drivers and then convoy to Seremban2 for breakfast at One Up Food court. We left the food court at 9.05am driving along the Seremban-Tampin trunk road looking for Sin Hiap Chang famous for its Buah Petai pau along the way.

10.30am - Stopped at this public "Kota Hot Spring" near to the commercial Pedas Hot Springs, Negeri Sembilan along the Seremban Tampin trunk road. At 4pm - We arrived at Batu Pahat town. And at 6pm we arrived at Pontian Kechil for tea at the seafront.

6.50pm - After almost 10 hours on the road we finally arrived at our destination of Kukup with the jetty at the road end. For the day we covered a total of 445km road journey.

We left the food court at 9.05am driving along the Seremban-Tampin trunk road looking for Sin Hiap Chang famous for its 'buah petai pau' along the way. AKL1502 - my new 8 day old Subaru 2.0i XV car taken delivery on 8th July 2015.


10.21am - We finally found this Sin Hiap Chang Pau Kampung shop famous for 'buah petai pau' along the way. The address: PT.2, Jalan Besar Kota, 71350 Negeri Sembilan. Contact: 012-6315544 06-4381004


This pau shop was truly recommended by Shahrul. Many thanks to Shahrul.


We ordered some "Pau Petai" and also some other different vegetable pau. 




10.30am - Stopped at this public "Kota Hot Spring" near to the commercial Pedas Hot Springs, Negeri Sembilan along the Seremban Tampin trunk road.


It is a public pool so no charges for using it.


It is located 15km from Seremban town, along the old trunk road heading to Tampin.


The water that comes out of the water-well is the hottest. It was lovely soaking our legs in it.


At about 30°C - 33°C, the naturally hot water contain minerals that is said to have healing properties - it is said to provide relief for arthritis, joint pains, body aches and a variety of skin ailments.


This "Pau Petai" was truly recommended by Shahrul - many thanks to you Shahrul.


The "Pau Petai" is really something different. I wont say it is a WOW taste, but it really gives you some nice taste if you don't mind the smell.


We ate our "Pau Petai" and left half and hour later.




12.10pm - Passing through a town.


12.41pm - It was easy driving along Seremban-Tampin trunk road. The mountain in front of us is the Gunung Ledang. Gunung Ledang National Park lies just inside Johor's border with Melaka state, about 30 km from the town of Muar. The mountain is 1276m high (4186ft).

1.45pm - This is the Muar River which flows through the states of Johor, Negeri Sembilan and Pahang in Malaysia. The river also flows through Muar town.


1.45pm - Noticed the gigantic Johor Flag in Muar town.


1.46pm - Padang Nyiru Laman Maharani - Muar is one of the cities situated at about 179km from Johor Bahru. It's a town and port on the south-western coast also known as Bandar Maharani for the local people staying there. It's popular for its delicious and inexpensive foods served by food stalls and restaurants. A picturesque town located strategically on the Muar River.

The beautiful Trinity Presbyterian Church in Muar town. Presbyterian refers to a theological heritage started by Martin Luther and refined by John Calvin. The roots of the Presbyterian Church extend back to Protestant Reformation, led by Martin Luther.


1.49pm - We stopped here to buy Otak Otak Muar Cheng Boi 阿梅乌达 for lunch. Address: 28-4, Jalan Bantayan, Muar, Johor, GPS: 2.049910, 102.572283 Hours: 7:30am to 4:00pm, Tel: +6019 626 3030 No pork, no lard, no Halal cert.


2pm - We stopped here to eat Mee Bandung for lunch and also Otak-Otak which we bought earlier. This shop is at No.1-26 , Tanjung Agas Batu 1, Muar, Johor.


While waiting for Mee Bandung to be served we go for the Otak-Otak first. Mee Bandung finally arrived and best to go with teh tarik.


Teh tarik literally means “pulled tea,” which is exactly what tea attendants in Malaysian kopitiam and mamak stalls do to create the drink. Black tea, sugar, and condensed milk are combined then poured through the air between two cups.


The Muar Mee Bandung - You have the choice of beef or chicken Mee Bandung.




Otak-otak is a grilled fish cake made of ground fish meat mixed with tapioca starch and spices.


2.45pm - We departed Muar for Batu Pahat along Jalan Parit Bakar trunk road. Breathtaking view of the canopy rain trees dotting the road.

4pm - We arrived at Batu Pahat town. It is located in Batu Pahat District, Johor, Malaysia. It lies south-east of Muar (a royal city), south-west of Kluang, north-west of Pontian and south of Segamat.


6pm - We arrived at Pontian Kechil for tea at the seafront. Pontian is a district in southwest Johor located 62km from Johor Bahru, Johor.


At Pontian Kechil seafront. For the adventurous you can hire a boat which might cost you MYR70 a night.

We walked through this 'Kampung Nelayan Air Masin' lane to look for accommodation.

We found this Kukup Blue View Resort for RM100 a room for 8pax. The resting room and on the right is the Karaoke room.


8.14pm - Dinner was at this Restaurant 188 that closes at 12 midnight which is good for those who arrived late.


We had the first dinner at this 188 Restaurant. JP Anandan bought 5 bottles of cold beer for all to celebrate Wei Wei's birthday. Many thanks to you JP Anandan.
